Difference between shot blasting and shot peening.

Shot peening and Shot blasting are two different ways of preparing the surface of a metal. While the end goal is the same, the procedure to do it is a bit different. Shot blasting is mainly used to either clean the surface or prepare it for further work like painting or powder coating by shooting cut wire shots with great energy at the surface. On the other hand, in shot peening, carefully selected abrasive material like a round cut wire shot is used in a controlled way to change the surface of the metal. In the shot peening, the amount of dust the process produces much less compared to shot blasting. Due to this reason, shot peening is widely used in the automotive, aerospace industry as well as construction sites. In shot peening, the media like the steel  cut wire shot is carefully selected so that no unnecessary damages is caused when it forcibly hit the metal surface. What are the advantages of the shot peening process? The shot peening process is widely used in many industr
