Maintenance tips for your shot blasting equipment.

We know that the shot blasting machinery is used extensively to clean hard metal and concretes. It is a hard job for the shot blast machine as they clean the metal surface and stained floors by using silica, glass beads, cut wire abrasive media, and stainless steel balls. If you want your shot blasting machine to work for years to come without any trouble, then you should maintain it properly. It will not only improve its efficiency but also the lifespan of the machine.

Regular maintenance of the shot blasting machine will also reduce the downtime and reduce the cost of repairing. In this blog, we have shared with you some points that would help you keep the machine running optimally for a long time.

Create a schedule

The best way to maintain a machine that is working day in and day out is by creating a maintenance schedule and then strictly sticking to it. You should know that regular small repairs of the machine are less costly than making a big repair if there is a fault. However, it is extremely hard to predict when and what kind of small repairs are needed in the absence of a proper maintenance schedule. Therefore, you have to do a regular maintenance check every time you use the machine. It would help you to find out any fault when they are very small so that you can repair it at the earliest and prevent any major breakdown later on.

Regular lubrication of the moving parts

The shot blasting machine uses highly abrasive media and some of these can inadvertently get inside the moving parts and damage the machine. Therefore, you must regularly clean the machine after use and keep the components well lubricated. A well-lubricated machine not only works smoothly but also its efficiency is boosted. Furthermore, regularly cleaning and lubricating the moving parts of the machine would increase the lifespan of the machine significantly.

Keeping it in a controlled environment

You must protect the engine of the machine so that it works efficiently. The best way to do it is by keeping it in a dry environment at a low temperature. You must operate it in a closed room with proper ventilation. However, if you have to use it outside, then make sure that the engine does not get wet.

Maintain dust collecting system

When you shoot stainless steel shots on the metallic or concrete surface, then a lot of dust is produced. You have to maintain the dust collectors and regularly check the filter cartridges to maintain proper airflow inside the machine.

Always Prefer Quality over Price When Selecting the Right Steel Shot

In many industries, steel abrasives, steel shots and steel grits are widely used to clean the surface of metal sheet, rubber, or any other material in a fast and cost-effective manner. Most of the time materials like copper cut wire shots , or aluminium cut wire shots are used for either cleaning or physical modification of a surface. At the same time conditioned carbon steel cut wire shots are used as a preparatory process for metal surface cleaning. In such metal surfaces scales, dirt, paint coatings or rust are cleared off. Additionally, the steel shots are also used for physically modifying the metal surface (like roughening it up) so that better application of paint and coating can take place on it. This shows how important steel shots are in many industrial processes. However, many manufacturing companies when trying to source steel shots from the market look for the cheapest option available. This is done to minimise the cost. However, this can have a big impact on the o...

The Main Difference Between Shot Peening and Shot Blasting.

If you are in the metal industry or the manufacturing sector, then you may have heard about shot blasting or shot peening. Both these processes are done to prepare metal sheets or workpieces for further processing. Let us understand what these processes are and the main differences between the two. What is the shot blasting process? Metal parts that are manufactured, are not utilised directly when they came out of the factory floor. They need powder coating, welding work, or a layer of paint before they are soldin the market. However, to do these, the surface of the metal part should be clean of any foreign element. In the shot blasting process, you can quickly remove foreign particles like oil, earth, metal oxides, plant scale to make the surface of the metal smooth. How does this process work? In this process, a high-pressure stream of abrasive media like stainless steel round cut wire shot , glass beads, copper shots, aluminium cut wire shots and other such media are thro...

The Usefulness of Glass Beads in Blasting Process.

You may have heard about the abrasive blasting method that uses VDFI 8001 cut wire shot and other such hard abrasives. However, you will be surprised to know that in many industrial applications where abrasive blasting is used, instead of using hard abrasives like the stainless steel shots , softer glass is being used. Glass beads offer a cost-effective and highly practical solution for those cleaning processes that need silica sand which is considered a health hazard. In this blog, we will like to explain the usefulness of glass beads in the blasting process. The perfect abrasive for softer surfaces The glass beads are mainly used as a cleaning agents wherein, the size of the bead ensures different outcomes. These beads are generally used on softer surfaces as they are not able to damage the surfaces on which they are projected at high speed (which a steel abrasive can). Environment friendly and cost-effective Glass beads are generally used in place of sand or silica becaus...
