Safety protocols to follow while using shot blasting machine.

Shot blasting using stainless steel round cut wire shot is a popular method to clean the surfaces of metal sheets. If you have a shot blasting machine, then we suggest that you should follow certain safety protocols to minimize the chances of accidents at your workstation. In the shot blasting machine, cut wire abrasives are projected at high speed on metal surfaces. Therefore, if you do not take adequate precautions, then these cut wire shots projectiles can seriously injure the operator or anybody else who is standing nearby.

In this article, we will lay out certain safety precautions that should be followed while using cut wire shot blasting machines so that the operator of the machine as well as others around it could be protected.

Hearing protection

In shot blasting machines, small steel projectiles are fired at high speed on metal surfaces to either clean them or change their properties. As metal surfaces hit, the sound emitted is quite high. An operator who is in close vicinity should always wear high-quality hearing protection like earplugs or earmuffs to protect their ears from such loud sounds.

Goggles

During the shot blasting process, the abrasives are thrown at high speed on the metal sheet from which a layer of material needs to be physically removed. Therefore, it becomes important that you should have proper protection for your eyes (like using goggles). As metal flying fragments that are formed during this violent process may damage your eyes, you should have the proper protection to keep your eyes safe.

Masks

Just like your ears and eyes, you should also protect your lungs during the shot blasting process. During this process, every minute fragments of metals and dust would be emitted. These minute particles can travel through your breathing tract to reach your lungs and damage them. Therefore, everyone who is present in the room where the shot blasting process is taking place should wear proper masks to prevent inhaling harmful materials.

Protective clothing

The shot blasting process is used to remove the top damaged layer of a metal sheet or any other hard materials. These hard materials if meets your skin can cause severe allergic reactions. To prevent this, you should wear proper protective clothing like gloves and long-sleeved overalls. This will ensure that there is minimal contact with the abrasive materials that are released during this process with your skin.

Safe area

the area where the shot blasting process is going on must be restricted to authorized personnel only. Furthermore, the room should be closed off so that the dust all the metal fragments that are released during this process are contained in a particular area.

Shot blasting is an extremely useful way to clean hard surfaces. If you follow the safety protocols that we have shared with you in this article, then you will be able to carry this work without any harm coming to your operators or anybody who works nearby.

Always Prefer Quality over Price When Selecting the Right Steel Shot

In many industries, steel abrasives, steel shots and steel grits are widely used to clean the surface of metal sheet, rubber, or any other material in a fast and cost-effective manner. Most of the time materials like copper cut wire shots , or aluminium cut wire shots are used for either cleaning or physical modification of a surface. At the same time conditioned carbon steel cut wire shots are used as a preparatory process for metal surface cleaning. In such metal surfaces scales, dirt, paint coatings or rust are cleared off. Additionally, the steel shots are also used for physically modifying the metal surface (like roughening it up) so that better application of paint and coating can take place on it. This shows how important steel shots are in many industrial processes. However, many manufacturing companies when trying to source steel shots from the market look for the cheapest option available. This is done to minimise the cost. However, this can have a big impact on the o...

What Are The Advantages Of Using Steel Abrasive?

Industries all around the world use shot blasting with steel abrasives to clean the surfaces of metal sheets (it is also sometimes used on other non-metallic surfaces). The popularity of using stainless steel shots in the industrial sector is due to three factors; it is highly economical, it does not harm the environment extensively and you can remove contaminants from the surface in a very short period. In this article, we will discuss with you some of the important applications of cut wire shot in the industry . What are the industrial applications of stainless steel shots ? 1). Still, shots are extensively usedto clean the surface of any metal sheet to clean any loose materials, paint coatings, or rust. This type of cleaning is widely used in those industries, wherein you have to clean large surfaces in a very short period like shipping, automobiles et cetera. 2). Steel grits are also widely used to cut through hard stones quickly, which is not possible through tradi...

The Usefulness of Glass Beads in Blasting Process.

You may have heard about the abrasive blasting method that uses VDFI 8001 cut wire shot and other such hard abrasives. However, you will be surprised to know that in many industrial applications where abrasive blasting is used, instead of using hard abrasives like the stainless steel shots , softer glass is being used. Glass beads offer a cost-effective and highly practical solution for those cleaning processes that need silica sand which is considered a health hazard. In this blog, we will like to explain the usefulness of glass beads in the blasting process. The perfect abrasive for softer surfaces The glass beads are mainly used as a cleaning agents wherein, the size of the bead ensures different outcomes. These beads are generally used on softer surfaces as they are not able to damage the surfaces on which they are projected at high speed (which a steel abrasive can). Environment friendly and cost-effective Glass beads are generally used in place of sand or silica becaus...
